Do I Need a Referral to See an Exercise Physiologist?

Partnering with an exercise physiologist is easier than you might think. Our exercise physiologists do not require a referral.

We do see:

  • Chronic disease management or EPC plans

  •   To qualify for this plan, you must have a chronic condition for more than 6 months (e.g., asthma, high blood pressure, depression).

  •   You may be entitled to receive up to 5 rebated sessions from an exercise physiologist over a calendar year - 2023 rebate of $58.00.

**Those who identify as ATSI can receive an additional 5 sessions.

  • NDIS - Registered NDIS provider for self-managed and plan-managed clients. Exercise Physiology funding may fall under "Improved Health and Well-being," "Enhanced Daily Living," or "Core Supports."

  • DVA - Our Exercise Physiologists require a D904 referral form to be seen under the Department of Veteran Affairs, which can support both land and water-based exercises pending goals and conditions.

  • Private Clients - Do not require a referral from a GP.

A large number of private health funds cover exercise physiology services; however, it is recommended you check with your individual health fund.

  • Workcover - The treatment provided by exercise physiologists is remarkably effective, with a focus on restoring the physical function of injured workers and empowering them with the knowledge needed to self-manage their condition for a successful return to work.
